Freya & Jarryn

We initially bonded over our love of adventure.

Freya Wildash and Jarryn Male were married on March 9, 2024.

Freya, originally from Melbourne, and Jarryn of Echunga, met through a mutual friend while staying at a shack on the Yorke Peninsula about 10 years ago and got to know each other across several summer trips before starting a long-distance relationship.

“We initially bonded over our love of adventure, the outdoors and being active,” Freya says.

“Getting to know each other more, we share similar values, priorities, humour and we just loved spending time together.”

Jarryn proposed in 2023 during another trip to the Yorke Peninsula shack, with an elaborate plan involving a treasure chest.

“We went out to catch squid and go for a dive and Jarryn managed to sneak a treasure chest on the boat and then distract me enough to drop it off into the water,” Freya says.

“The wooden box didn’t quite sink as Jarryn had planned and so he had swam away and I ended up spotting the box excitedly.”

Freya brought the box into the boat and discovered a bottle of champagne inside, before noticing Jarryn down on one knee and holding a “perfect” sapphire ring.

“We were then lucky enough to be joined by a couple of dolphins and, after a choppy day on the water, the sea flattened to make the most perfect afternoon,” she says.

The couple was married at Cobb’s Hill Estate at Oakbank.

“Having all our favourite people in the one place and bringing our families together was wonderful,” Freya says.
