Things we love – Autumn 2023

1
Grapes for Good

Wine for a good cause? Yes please! We just love the collaboration between six Langhorne Creek wineries and Monarto Safari Park, which raises money for animal conservation. From shiraz to fiano and cabernet savignon, you can enjoy a local drop of wine, knowing you’re also supporting a great cause.
And, what’s more, the collab just won international recognition as the best Innovative Wine Tourism Experience at the World Best of Wine Tourism Awards. monartosafari.com.au/grapes-for-good

Gorge Wildlife Park

Did you know that the Adelaide Hills’ very own Gorge Wildlife Park is featured in new release horror/thriller movie Carnifex? Starring Harry Greenwood (son of actor Hugo Weaving) and Alexandra Park (of Home and Away fame), the movie follows the story of an aspiring documentary maker and conservationalists who discover they are being tracked by a terrifying creature – the carnifex. Part of the movie, which was released in December was filmed at the park. gorgewildlifepark.com.au

4
The Bookbinder of Jericho

Written by Adelaide Hills author Pip Williams and released in March 2023, The Bookbinder of Jericho is the companion to award-winning novel The Dictionary of Lost Words. It explores the sometimes complex relationship between love and ambition, through the eyes of the women who kept Britain running during WW1. Meticulously researched and beautifully written, it’s not to be missed. pipwilliams.com.au

AFL comes to the Hills

Sport fans, gather round! Some of Australia’s best AFL talent is heading to Mt Barker. The match, between the North Melbourne Kangaroos and Brisbane Lions, will be played on April 15 and is part of the Gather Round – A festival of footy, during which all nine AFL games will be played in SA. afl.com.au/gatherround

6
Autumn at Mt Lofty

There’s a reason people flock to the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens in autumn. This cool climate garden really does turn it on for visitors as the weather cools, with the red, yellow, orange and bronze hues of deciduous varieties of trees nestled among the evergreens and natives. Pack a picnic and find a spot away from the crowds – there are plenty of hidden spaces to explore. botanicgardens.sa.gov.au
